Understanding the Blue Street Line

A new type of road marking has begun appearing in some parts of the United States—a thin blue line painted between the yellow center lines. Already spotted on certain roads in Maryland, the marking is meant to honor police officers and recognize their commitment to protecting local communities.

In Ocean City, the blue line has been painted along 65th Street, the road that leads directly to the local police department. Mayor Rick Sheehan has expressed strong support for the project, noting how important the police force is to the community.

He emphasized the vital work officers do every day, particularly in a busy coastal destination like Ocean City, where keeping residents and visitors safe is a top priority. The blue line is intended as a small but symbolic way for the town to show respect and appreciation for the service of its law enforcement officers.
